Scotch Whisky Experience,
354 Castlehill, Royal Mile, Edinburgh, EH1 2NE.
Whisky is the national drink of Scotland, known in Gaelic as ‘uisge beatha’ which means ‘water of life’. Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for hundreds of years and no visit to the country is complete without sampling a wee dram or two. For a taste of Scotland, visit The Scotch Whisky Experience – home to the world’s largest collection of Scotch Whisky. Here you’ll learn all about the whisky distillation process and enjoy a tipple for yourself.
The standard tour, which lasts for one hour and runs throughout the day, includes an exciting whisky barrel ride through a relica Scotch Whisky distillery. Each visitor gets the chance to try a dram of Scotch Malt Whisky, with an introduction to whisky tasting. Experts are on hand to teach you about the intricate flavours and aromas and will even match a Scotch Whisky to your own palate. The tour is suitable for families, as younger visitors may sample Scotland’s other national drink, Irn Bru! Special extended tours are also available – the perfect day out for the whisky lover in your life!
One of the highlights of the tour is the chance to view the largest collection of Scotch Whisky in the world (pictured above). Put together by Brazilian collector Claive Vidiz and now owned by whisky manufacturer Diageo – over 3,500 individual bottles of whisky is quite a sight to behold.
After the tour, guests can put their new whisky tasting skills to the test at the Whisky Bar, which stocks over 400 different single malts, blends and liqueurs. Fine Scottish cuisine is served up in the attraction’s award winning Amber Restaurant, where they offer a great whisky and food matching service.
