Edinburgh Zoo, 134 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6TS
Edinburgh Zoo is the largest wildlife attraction in Scotland and a leading centre for conservation, education and research. With over 1000 rare and endangered animals and a busy programme of daily activities, it is a great day out for all the family. Situated in the Corstorphine area to the west of the city centre, it is easily accessed by regular buses from Princes Street.
The zoo has recently undergone a series of improvements and refurbishments, so there are new animals to discover and revamped state-of-the-art enclosures for both the animals and visitors to enjoy.
- Giant Pandas – Visit Tian Tian and Yang Guang, the only Giant Pandas in the UK. If you would like to see them on your visit, please note that entry is time-ticketed and spaces are limited. You can book a slot online when you purchase zoo tickets in advance. Due to the breeding programme, panda viewing is sometimes restricted or closed, check before booking.
- Penguin Parade – Edinburgh Zoo boasts the largest outdoor penguin enclosure in Europe, home to a colony of King, Gentoo and Rockhopper Penguins. Every day penguins are let out of their enclosure to parade the walkways of the zoo. The individual penguins choose whether or not to take part each day, so every parade is different.
- Animal Antics Show – This show takes place twice daily during the summer months at the Hilltop Arena. Animals on show are different each day but may include rainbow lorikeets, tawny owls, cockatoos and kune kune pigs.
- Budungo Trail – Meet the zoo’s group of chimpanzees up-close in this interactive enclosure and observe their natural physical and mental behaviours on both indoor and outdoor viewing galleries. Visitors also learn of the behavioural research the zoo conducts and the work the society does to help wild chimpanzees in Africa.
