Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo,
Fri 4 – Sat 26 Aug 2017, Edinburgh Castle Esplanade.
The Edinburgh Tattoo is a spectacular show held every August with the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. It is a celebration of military pageantry featuring performers, musicians, singers and dancers from Scotland and all over the world.
Most famous for the regimental massed pipes and drums and massed military bands that play the iconic music of Scotland, the Tattoo is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture and heritage of the country. The Scots are joined by international military performers presenting their own national music and traditions, adding to the vibrancy and excitement of the evening.
Each year the Tattoo follows a new theme. The theme for 2017 is ‘Splash of Tartan’, celebrating the history, heritage and colour of Scotland’s global family both near and far. The Royal Navy will lead this year, with the Massed Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. Hundreds of participants from all over the world are set to play a part. There will be music, display, dance and singing from international military regiments and cultural troupes. Following tradition, the show will be brought to an emotional climax by the famous ‘lone piper’ playing a lament high on the ramparts of the castle. The finale will include a spectacular fireworks display (extended on certain nights) and audiences of the later shows will be treated to an extraordinary military jet fly-past.
From the loyal fans who return to the Tattoo year after year to the newcomers eager to experience the extravaganza for the first time, the Castle Esplanade is sure to be packed out every night, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets are available now on the Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo website.
