Christmas Light Night

Each year, Edinburgh’s Christmas Lights are switched on at the Light Night ceremony on George Street. Performers sing and dance on stages all along George Street and the grand finale is a stunning fireworks display. The night will be hosted by Radio Forth One’s Arlene Stuart and lights will be switched on by Olympics star Callum Skinner. Light Night is free and unticketed and attracts thousands of visitors each year, so it is advised to get there early.
Street Of Light
Mon 21 Nov – Sat 24 Dec, 18.00 & 20.00.
Street of Light is a stunning light show located this year on West George Street. Over 60,000 lights synchronised to live music from local choirs and bands with two performances at 6pm and 8pm every night. The event is free, but you must book tickets to ensure entry.
Sat 19 Nov – Sat 7 Jan.
East Princes Street Gardens and St Andrew Square are transformed into a winter wonderland with ice rinks, colourful fairground attractions and festive markets. Take a spin on the Big Wheel or brave the thrilling Star Flyer for amazing views of the city. The kids can visit Santa in his grotto, ride on the Santa Train, and explore the Christmas Tree Maze in Santa Land. Kids rides include the Swan ride, the Reindeer carousel, a mini roller-coaster, the Ride-a-rama, a North Pole Slide and the Ice Wall. Explore the magical European Market with a cup of mulled wine in hand, for unique handmade gifts and delicious hot food and snacks. A new addition for 2016, you can now catch a special show at the Festival Square Theatre on Lothian Road.
Each year shoppers can take advantage of the late night Christmas shopping hours and enjoy the festive atmosphere on Princes Street, one of the most famous shopping streets in the world.
